Homemade Nourishing Gummies for Kids

These homemade gummies are on repeat in our house! The boys absolutely love them, and I love knowing exactly what's going into their little bodies.

Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, they're a lovely alternative to conventional store-bought gummies, without the artificial colours, flavours or unnecessary additives.

And my favourite part? You can sneak in a little extra nourishment with liver powder, spirulina, beetroot powder.. any colour you want them to be, get creative!

Why I Love These Gummies

Grass-Fed Gelatin

Gelatin is a protein derived from collagen and contains amino acids such as glycine and proline.

These amino acids play important roles in the body, including supporting the formation and maintenance of connective tissues such as skin, cartilage and joints.

I always recommend choosing a high-quality, grass-fed gelatin where possible.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of your choice
  • 1 or 2 tbsp raw honey, depends how sweet they want it.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp grass-fed gelatin
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • 2 tbsp liver powder (optional)

Method

  1. Warm the milk. Add the milk, raw honey and vanilla extract to a saucepan over medium-low heat. Gently warm, stirring until the honey has dissolved. Avoid boiling.
  2. Bloom the gelatin. In a separate bowl, add the filtered water and sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes until the gelatin absorbs the water and becomes thick.
  3. Combine. Gradually add the warm milk mixture to the bloomed gelatin, stirring until the gelatin has completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add any powder. Stir through the powder, if using for colouring.
  5. Pour into moulds. Transfer the mixture into silicone gummy moulds or a shallow glass dish.
  6. Refrigerate. Place in the fridge for approximately 2–4 hours, or until completely set.
  7. Enjoy! Remove from the moulds or slice into little squares.

A Few Little Tips

  • Choose quality ingredients. I prefer organic milk, raw honey and grass-fed gelatin wherever possible.
  • Make them without powder. Simply leave out the powder for a creamy vanilla gummy.
  • Use silicone moulds. They're perfect for making little bite-sized shapes for children.
  • Store in the fridge. Keep in an airtight container and enjoy within 3–4 days.

Enjoy!
