Real Ice Cream

Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Simple ingredients, beautifully creamy, and a family favourite.

There is something so special about making your own ice cream at home. No unnecessary additives, artificial flavours or long ingredient lists. Just a handful of ingredients that come together to make the most delicious, rich and creamy vanilla ice cream.

This is one of our favourite homemade treats. The boys absolutely love it, and I love knowing exactly what goes into it.

Made with egg yolks, cream, milk, real vanilla and a little maple syrup for sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 cup raw cream
  • ½ cup raw milk
  • 1 vanilla bean or 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup

Method

  1. Add the egg yolks, cream, milk, vanilla and maple syrup in a mixing bowl.
  2. Whisk until everything is well combined and smooth.
  3. Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker.
  4. Churn according to your machine's instructions until thick, creamy and softly frozen.
  5. Enjoy straight away for a soft-serve consistency, or transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for a few hours for a firmer, scoopable ice cream.

Why I Love Making Our Own Ice Cream

For me, it's about keeping things simple and choosing ingredients as close to their natural state as possible.

Egg yolks give the ice cream its beautiful richness and provide nutrients including choline and vitamins A and B12.

Cream and milk create that delicious, creamy texture, while providing fat, protein and calcium.

Pure maple syrup adds just enough sweetness without needing refined white sugar.

And real vanilla brings everything together with its beautiful natural flavour.

Whenever possible, I choose organic, high-quality ingredients.

Enjoy!
