The 12 Homeopathic Remedies Every Family Should Have at Home

The 12 Homeopathic Remedies Every Family Should Have at Home

New to homeopathy? You don't need hundreds of remedies to begin learning. Start with 12.

One of the most common questions I hear is:

“Kiki, I'd love to learn about homeopathy, but where do I even start?”

And I understand, it can be very overwhelming and so much to learn about but honestly, just start very basic and you don't need to know everything before you start using it. I didn't know a thing about homeopathy when I first started using it. When a fever was present I would just follow the steps and that's exactly what would be doing. I just went down the rabbit hole and wanted to learn everything about this miracle medicine.

My advice? Keep it simple.

Start with a small collection of traditional remedies, don't overwhelm yourself. Part of the reason why I designed my 12 remedy kits was for the beginners, for the travellers.. and honestly I use this kit ALL the time myself as a homeopath, even at home. We travelled to Europe and Fiji as a family with only this kit on hand. It was all we needed.

These are the 12 remedies I've selected for the House of Vitalis First Aid Kit.

Meet the 12 Remedies

Each remedy has its own traditional homeopathic picture.

1. Arnica

Perhaps one of the most recognised homeopathic remedies. Traditionally associated with bumps, bruising and physical knocks, muscle soreness, shock.

2. Aconitum (Aconite)

Traditionally associated with sudden fright and the abrupt onset of symptoms. Sudden, unexpected shock, visible fear.

3. Apis

Known in traditional homeopathic literature for its association with stinging sensations, puffiness and sensitivity to warmth. Apis is made from the venom of the honeybee and this is exactly the remedy you want after any bite or sting that gets hot, swollen, shiny, puffy looking.

4. Belladonna

Traditionally associated with sudden heat, think fever, redness and throbbing sensations, sunstroke. Belladonna is the number one remedy used, also for pets.

5. Bryonia

Often described in homeopathic literature in connection with discomfort that feels worse with movement.

6. Gelsemium

Traditionally associated with heaviness, trembling and sluggishness. While Belladonna is hot and flushed, Gelsemium tends toward trembling, weakness, and a heavy, droopy feeling throughout.

7. Hypericum

Traditionally associated with sensitivity following injuries to nerve-rich areas, fingertips, toes, and the base of the spine. Together with Ledum it is the homeopath's pairing for puncture wounds and tetanus prevention.

8. Chamomilla

Often discussed in traditional homeopathy in relation to irritability, restlessness and teething discomfort.

9. Hepar sulph

Traditionally associated with pronounced sensitivity to cold and touch.

10. Ledum pal

Traditionally associated with puncture-type injuries and other great insect bite remedy, think thick bites.

11. Nux vomica

Traditionally associated with digestive discomfort, overindulgence and irritability. Think hangovers, indigestion, heartburn. Too much of anything.

12. Pulsatilla

Traditionally associated with changeable symptoms and a desire for comfort and reassurance, often used for clingy babies, toddlers that jus want to be with you, on you, next to you.. you know what I mean mums!

Why Start With Just 12?

When you begin with a smaller collection, you can take your time understanding them. It's actually pretty fun. The kit comes with a guided booklet that will tell you every step of the way what remedy to choose for. And remember even if we don't have the right remedy, there will be no improvements in the symptoms and you just move onto the next remedy. No harm done, never.

How do I know which Remedy to Choose?

Your guidance booklet is included, it is made to fit perfectly in the case. You will just follow the steps in the booklet which will lead you to the remedy. If something is not clear, you always have my support through email info@houseofvitalis.com.

Can I dose my Baby and How Does it Work?

Absolutely, homeopathy is safe in every stage of life. You will use 2 drops just like everyone else. If your baby doesn't take any water yet, just use a little glass with water and 2 drops, mix and use a syringe to slowly dose your baby when needed.

As needed” means you give a dose when symptoms show up and let how your child is doing guide how often you repeat it.

  • Start when you notice symptoms. Give one dose.
  • If symptoms continue, repeat the dose after about 10-15 minutes.
  • As things improve, leave longer gaps. Only dose again when symptoms return.
  • Once symptoms have settled, stop. You don’t need to keep dosing.

Example: your baby is teething and seems uncomfortable. Give a dose. If they’re still unsettled 10 minutes later, give another. If they’re comfortable for a while and then fuss again 30 minutes later, give one more dose, then wait for the next sign.

What is the difference between a blend and a remedy?

Your kit is stocked with remedies. That means it is one single remedy in the bottle. When I talk about blends, that means I have pre selected remedies and mixed them together to support a certain concern.

So at home, keep it simple, use the single remedies through using your booklet and I highly recommend slowly adding some blends into the home in addition. They can be powerful for specific things.

What About Potencies?

At House of Vitalis, my remedies are prepared as Fibonacci Homochords, combining multiple homeopathic potencies of the same remedy in a Fibonacci-based sequence. That way your body can choose the potency needed and there is no guessing work involved.
